Increase Your laptop Battery Life

Find out how you can increase the laptop battery life with just few minor adjustments.

Demand of Notebook PC or laptop has seen a sharp increase in the past few years and justly so given its tiny frame and high performance. They are particularly a blessing for people on move. Lightweight and sized just right. However, it faces same problems like any other mobile device.
The primary complaint any laptop user would make is of its battery “not lasting enough”. And, it is a perennial problem I say! No matter what a brand boasts or advertises of most of the laptop’s won’t last a day and that is when exactly the need to extend its battery comes up.

Tips to Increase Laptop Battery Life

I would list out some simple yet effective ways to increase laptop battery life, choose ones that appeals to you the most.

1. Lower the brightness:

Biggest reason for the major battery drain is surely the brightness setting of your laptop. Reducing the laptop’s backlight would add 30 minutes of life to the battery. You would be able to do this through the control panel of your Notebook or you could see a “sun” symbol on the keyboard.
When you press that sun symbol, it allows you to change the settings. Another method to get it done is Windows+ X and clicking on “mobility center” from the options.

2. Disable connection buttons:

Wifi and bluetooth both drain the battery considerably. And, if you have not been planning to use either for some time, it would be clever choice to disable one or both.
While WiFi on most laptop are separate button that can be turned on and off, Bluetooth settings have to be changed manually via the control panel or any symbol that you can see the desktop or icon tray. All you need to do is right click on it and click on disable/enable button.

3. Keep a tab on the Tabs:

If you are of the habit of keeping tabs open – 10-20 at a time, the performance of your Notebook PC would go down considerably. So, even as you surface, make sure that you close the tab diligently and you will find that the laptop battery life elongates.

4. Buy a new battery:

If your laptop battery life is worn out, you could consider buying a new battery altogether. Contrary to popular belief, batteries of Notebook PC are suppose to last for a life time.
Changing the batteries as and when required would surely mean better performance and a lasting battery life. Over the time, battery of laptop would wear out and would only charge to 50% of its original capacity. This is the best time to check for replacement.

5. Remove unnecessary peripherals:

You sure like to keep your machine upgraded at all times. But adding dvd players, external HDD, pen drive etc, you are seriously heading towards battery drain. So, make sure that you remove & uninstall all unnecessary peripherals and software and keep your notebook as much clean as possible.
These are a few points you must consider if you are suffering from battery problem in a notebook, following them would make sure the battery doesn’t die on you.

How to Recover Files that are Infected by the Shortcut Virus in USB drive/ Hard Drive / Pen Drive

Follow the instructions below and don’t worry if you don’t understand the technical jargons. Do this using the admin account on your computer.
Press the Window key and “R” key on your keyboard simultaneously. It will open the “Run” prompt. For those who are not aware, Run prompt is used to start any application by just typing the short name of the application.
So once you have opened the Run prompt, type CMD. Then hit the Enter key. CMD will open Command Prompt – a black window where you can type DOS commands.
Once you are in command prompt, type in below command.
ATTRIB -H -R -S /S /D J:\
shortcut virus USB drive
Note: Copy pasting the commands from webpage may not be correct in some cases. If you want to copy paste, then do it on a notepad first and then check if it’s correct. Edit it on notepad if required and then copy paste it on the command prompt.
Important: The letter J denotes the letter of the drive that represents your USB drive or pen drive. It may change from one computer to other computer. So, first check in your “Computer” the letter that denotes your USB drive and according use it in the above command.
So that’s ATTRIB followed by space followed by hyphen followed by letter H then space followed by hyphen followed by letter R then space followed by hyphen followed by letterS then space followed by forward slash followed by letter S then space followed by slash followed by letter D followed by space followed by drive letter of your USB followed by a colon followed by backward slash.
Once you have keyed in the above command with correct letter of USB, hit the enter key.
That’s it. Just go back to your USB drive after a couple of minutes and you will see all the data back.
Take back-up of your data files (not the shortcut files) on your PC and then format the problematic USB. The shortcut virus should be gone.
Important: Do remember to take the back-up properly before formatting the USB drive.
So this was the easy way to recover files that were converted to shortcut by the shortcutvirus in USB drive or pen drive.
